Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso
The Kwankwasiyya Movement faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has agreed to a 30 percent share of the leadership positions in Kano among other compelling power interests in the emerging opposition party.
The movement, under the leadership of former presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, consented to the power-sharing agreement alongside the former Vice President, Alh. Atiku Abubakar, and the former Kano Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna-led factions.
Both Kwankwaso and Gawuna recently dumped their NNPP and All Progressives Congress (APC) respectively for the ADC had realign their political structure and interest to reclaim power from the ruling party in Kano.
Kwankwaso was compelled to recalibrate his political interest to hold grip to his enduring grassroot influence in Kano polity after he lost control of the structure that produce the incumbent Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf who had since defected to ruling APC.
In the final deal reached over the weekend, the Atiku Abubakar faction of the ADC, led by Ibrahim Al’ Amin Little, secured 40 percent, while the Gawuna faction was allocated 30 percent of party leadership slots.
Addressing journalists after the ADC stakeholders meeting held at Kwankwaso’s residence in Kano, the party’s Acting Publicity Secretary, Sa’id Bello, said the outcome of the sharing structure was necessary to harmonize all interests in the emerging opposition.
Bello confirmed that the arrangement was designed to guide the emergence of party executives from the ward level to the state level and noted that the carefully adopted formula reflected inclusiveness.
According to Bello, “The Kwankwasiyya bloc aligned with Senator Kwankwaso will control 30 percent of party leadership positions, while the existing ADC structure headed by Atiku loyalist Al’ Amin Little retains 40 percent. The faction loyal to Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna is also allocated 30 percent.”
The meeting drew participation from prominent figures, including Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam, Dr. Akilu Indabawa, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, and Senator Rufa’I Sani Hanga.
The Friday night meeting was presided over by Senator Lawal Adamu Usman, who was mandated by the national leadership of the ADC to oversee the process and ensure a smooth integration of all factions. (The Guardian)
