The Supreme Court has unanimously dismissed two separate appeals and affirmed the death sentences earlier handed down by the Jigawa State High Court and upheld by the Court of Appeal.

This was contained in a statement issued and personally signed by the Jigawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Bello Abdulkadir Fanini, and made available to reporters in Dutse, the state capital.

The Attorney General commended the state prosecution team and the judiciary for their diligence and strict adherence to the principles of justice.

“Today, April 10, 2026, I led a team of state counsels to the Supreme Court of Nigeria sitting in Abuja for judgment regarding suits No. SC/CR/2020/69 and SC/CR/70/2020,” he said.

He explained that the appeals arose from two separate cases involving convictions for murder by stabbing, committed by Abdulmajid Hassan and Adamu Audu.

“In both cases, the nation’s apex court unanimously dismissed the appeals and affirmed the death sentences earlier imposed by the Jigawa State High Court and upheld by the Court of Appeal,” he added.

Fanini noted that the judgments reaffirm the state government’s resolve to ensure that criminal acts are met with the full weight of the law.

He said Jigawa State, under the leadership of Governor Malam Umar Namadi, remains committed to strengthening the administration of justice and safeguarding lives and property.

The Attorney General further assured that the Ministry of Justice and other justice sector institutions would continue to work diligently to promote peace, security, and economic development, aligning with the administration’s 12-point agenda. (The Nation)
