Delta SDP chieftain Ukueku
Comr. Lucky O.O Ukueku, a chieftain of the Social Democracy Party (SDP) in Delta State, has strongly disagreed with Governor, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s statement that there is no opposition party who can challenge him in the state and that Delta State belongs to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on March 9, 2026, Comr. Ukueku described the Governor’s statement as false and urged the public to disregard it. He emphasized that the SDP is currently the oldest party in Nigeria without factions and is not corrupt like some other parties.
Comr. Ukueku recalled that the SDP’s governorship candidate in Delta State during the 2023 election was the late Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, who led the party in the state, and questioned how Governor Sheriff could make such a statement while remembering such a prominent leader.
He revealed that he supported Governor Sheriff in the 2023 election due to Sen. Okowa’s influence but was disappointed as the Governor failed to fulfill promises made at his Osubi residence in the presence of Urhobo ex-agitators. This, he said, led to his exit from the party.
Comr. Ukueku warned Governor Sheriff not to be deceived that Delta State belongs to APC, stating that 2027 is around the corner and those denying his presence might turn against him. He cited the example of Jesus, who was rejected by the same crowd He helped, urging the Governor to stay focused and complete his single term, allowing Deltans to decide who will complete the Delta Central second term.
He highlighted the inclusivity of Sen. Okowa’s administration, where every community in Delta State had a political appointment, contrasting it with the current administration, which he accused of favouring friends and associates of the Governor.
He noted that Delta State’s current revenue allocation and budget are almost five times that of Sen. Okowa’s administration, acknowledging the Governor’s efforts in road infrastructure but questioning his focus on human capital development and social amenities.
Comr. Ukueku lamented that some primary schools in Delta State lack chairs for students and the state of the buildings is very bad, urging the Governor to address these issues rather than singing his own praises. He appealed to those close to the Governor to guide and advise him to focus on performance.
Comr. Ukueku appealed to Deltans, especially those in PDP, Labour Party, and other opposition parties, to join forces with SDP in the 2027 election, asserting that Governor Sheriff will then know if there is opposition in Delta State.
