Afrobeats star Asake
Afrobeats star Asake has cemented his dominance in Nigeria’s digital music landscape after emerging as the leading artist on the list of the most streamed albums in the country since 2020.
The ranking, compiled by TurnTable Charts, Nigeria’s foremost music chart publication, shows that Asake’s first two studio albums occupy the top two positions among the most streamed projects in the country during the streaming era.
Leading the list is the singer’s 2023 sophomore album Work of Art, which has accumulated an impressive 661.2 million streams. The project enjoyed both commercial success and critical acclaim and continues to perform strongly on streaming platforms years after its release.
Close behind is Asake’s debut album Mr Money With The Vibes, which ranks second with 634.4 million streams. His third studio album, Lungu Boy, also appears on the list, placing sixth with 387.4 million streams, further highlighting the singer’s remarkable influence on Nigeria’s digital music consumption.
Industry observers say the dominance reflects the artist’s rapid rise to stardom and his role in reshaping contemporary Afrobeats with a distinctive blend of energetic rap flows and fuji inspired melodies.
The singer’s commercial success aligns with recent data from Spotify Nigeria, which named him the most streamed artist of all time in the country since the platform launched locally in 2021.
Asake first gained mainstream attention with the release of his breakthrough EP Ololade Asake in January 2022. His signature sound, combined with the production style of collaborator Magicsticks and the prominent use of log drums, quickly produced hit records that propelled him to the forefront of the Nigerian music industry.
While Asake dominated the list with three entries in the top six, other Nigerian stars also recorded strong performances.
Burna Boy secured multiple entries on the ranking, including his 2022 album Love, Damini, which sits fourth with 436.8 million streams. His 2023 project I Told Them ranks ninth with 308 million streams, while his Grammy winning album Twice As Tall holds the 19th position with 235.3 million streams.
Similarly, Davido appears on the list with two projects, including his 2023 album Timeless, which ranks fifth with 428.5 million streams. His later release 5ive also made the list at number 15 despite being released only in 2025.
Wizkid also secured two spots, with his sixth album Morayo ranking tenth with 301.4 million streams, while his globally acclaimed 2020 project Made in Lagos appears at number 13 with 264.1 million streams.
Other artists featured include Seyi Vibez, whose debut album Billion Dollar Baby sits eighth with 331.1 million streams, while his 2023 album Thy Kingdom Come ranks 17th with 245 million streams.
Additional projects on the list include Boy Alone by Omah Lay, EZIOKWU by ODUMODUBLVCK, Jiggy Forever by Young Jonn, Maverick by Kizz Daniel, Sincerely, Benson by BNXN, Playboy by Fireboy DML, Blessed by MohBad, and HEIS by Rema.
With three albums firmly positioned in the top tier of the ranking, analysts say Asake’s streaming numbers underscore his status as one of the defining artists of Nigeria’s modern Afrobeats era. (AriseNews TV)
