A trailer on Tuesday night crushed two persons to death along the Nnamdi Azikiwe Expressway in Kaduna metropolis.
Witnesses said the victims — a man and a woman — were riding on a motorcycle when the trailer rammed into them and ran them over at about 9 p.m., killing them instantly.
“It was a terrible sight. The man and the woman were on a motorcycle, and no one knows where they were coming from. The woman’s body was gathered and put into a sack, while the man was also crushed. They died on the spot,” he said.
Residents said the impact of the crash left parts of the victims’ remains stuck to the road, making evacuation difficult.
Police officers later arrived at the scene and conveyed the bodies to a hospital.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command, Tijjani Iliyasu, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust.
He said the corps received reports that a trailer ran over two persons on the expressway, noting that ongoing construction work on the road requires motorists to exercise patience and caution.
“There is road construction going on, so drivers need to be patient and avoid reckless driving. Unfortunately, many drivers are not patient, and that is the problem,” he said.
He urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and drive carefully to reduce the rising cases of road crashes across the country. (Daily Trust)
