Islamic scholar, Sheikh Gumi

Renowned Nigerian Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Gumi, has dismissed claims circulating online that he was arrested by the United States Army over alleged terrorism links.
Viral images on social media showed the cleric purportedly handcuffed and escorted by two U.S. military officers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
However, when contacted by our correspondent, Dr. Gumi described the claim as false and the image as fabricated.
“It is not true. As a former military officer myself, the military has no constitutional power to arrest a civilian. Again, I have not received any security communication with either the US government or any of its security outfit. The image is AI-generated. I am currently in Kaduna carrying out my normal, legitimate and lawful activities,” he said.
