Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked two communities of Auno and Kukareta, targeting military posts and soft spots along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road in Borno and Yobe states.
According to a credible military source on Saturday in Maiduguri, “Dozens of terrorists burst from the south fringe of Sambisa Forest on Friday night and attacked Kukareta, Auno, and the two military check-points in the attacked communities of the states.”
The source added, “There were no recorded casualties in the attack on troops and the communities,” because the insurgents were repelled, forcing them to towards the Sasawa thick forest in Yobe State.
Military and other security agencies’ sources revealed: “The increased ground and aerial counter-terrorism operations of the military in Sambisa Forest are forcing the survived insurgents to flee and eventually attack soft targets along the 132km Maiduguri-Damaturu road.”
The sources added that even Benisheik h, Mainok and Jakana communities in the two states were not aware of the Friday night attacks on Auno and Kukareta.
“It was an emergency report from our military post that alerted us on Friday’s twin attacks on Auno and Kukareta in Borno and Yobe, respectively.” stated the sources. (Guardian)
