The celebrant, Rev Fr Okhueleigbe Osemhantie Amos, with a cross section of dignitaries at the eve
Brother Roman Catechetical and Renewal Centre, Ekpoma, Edo State, was the meeting point on Friday, December 19, 2025, as clergy, religious, scholars, students, and lay faithful gathered to mark the tenth anniversary of the priestly ordination of Rev. Fr. Okhueleigbe Osemhantie Amos. The occasion drew participants from across Nigeria, including priests from outside the province, students from tertiary institutions, media practitioners, and representatives of different Christian traditions and the royal palace of Uzea.
The programme was structured in two parts: the Holy Mass and a reception. The Mass was preached by Rev. Fr. Greg Abuya, a classmate of the celebrant. In his homily, he thanked God for the gift of the priesthood in the life of Fr. Okhueleigbe and reminded the congregation that priestly ministry is not confined to parish work alone. He noted that some priests serve the Church through teaching, research, and writing, using intellect and scholarship as instruments of evangelisation. He commended the celebrant’s humility and his consistent effort to maintain fraternity among brother priests, regardless of where they are assigned.
One of the notable moments of the liturgy was the presentation of Papal Blessing, performed by Rev. Fr. Luke Ubuiminye. The Rev. Fr. Paul Oboh, of the Archdiocese of Benin City, as Master of Ceremonies, activities transitioned gracefully all through the Mass.
Attention later shifted to the academic contribution of the celebrant with the review of his book, “Dynamics of Family Communication”. The review was done by Rev. Fr. Dr. Leonard Elomien, who described the work as timely and relevant, particularly for families navigating contemporary social pressures. He praised the book’s clarity and practical value and acknowledged the author’s sustained commitment to serving the Church through scholarship and writing.
The celebration attracted a wide range of attendees, including faithful from other Christian denominations and guests from major cities and towns across the country. The Chancellor of the Diocese (Very Revd Fr. Oseabulu Odenore) was present, accompanied by retinue of priests, amidst religious men and women and lay faithful. The celebrant also acknowledged the presence of some of his lecturers, including Prof. Matthew Izibili.
Speaking briefly after the event, Fr. Okhueleigbe expressed gratitude to God and said he was deeply moved by the turnout, particularly the strong presence of brother priests. He described the show of solidarity as humbling for a priest marking ten years of ordination. He thanked all who honoured the occasion with their presence, calls, messages and support.
“Dynamics of Family Communication” remains available for purchase.
