More revelations have emerged on the investigations into the alleged coup recently aborted by alert security agencies.
A report by Daily Sun this Thursday morning, October 30, 2025, said: “So far, all the culprits involved in the coup, including a Brigadier General, Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels and a Captain have made confessional statements on their roles and how they were “conscripted” into the game.”
The report also gave details of how operatives from the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), working in collaboration with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), tracked and uncovered the huge amount of money meant to sponsor the alleged aborted coup to the accounts of the former Bayelsa State governor, Timipre Sylva.
As per Daily Sun:
The secret service was said to have gone after the former Petroleum Minister (State), who has been on its wanted list for some time over his alleged role in the aborted coup plot.
Sylva, who is outside the country, is said to be the main financier of the aborted coup to topple the government of President Bola Tinubu.
Daily Sun gathered that Sylva was allegedly fingered by some of the officers involved in the coup plot.
The revelation by the coup culprits led by a Brigadier General was said to have prompted DIA operatives to go after the former governor, who, unknown to them, had traveled outside the country when he learnt that the culprits had all been arrested.
Investigation on the huge financial involvement of the former governor was reportedly uncovered by a team of investigators from the DIA, who then contacted their counterparts from the NFIU and EFCC to uncover the tracks.
It was gathered that when news of the coup was first broken to President Tinubu, he did not believe it. He reportedly asked for concrete evidence which led the DIA contacting the two financial crime agencies for assistance.
Daily Sun also gathered that it was the outcome of the revelation by the three agencies that convinced the president to believe that, indeed, there was an attempted coup.
So far, all the culprits involved in the coup, including a Brigadier General, Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels and a Captain have made confessional statements on their roles and how they were “conscripted” into the game.
It was further gathered that a huge amount of money was meant to buy drones and other technological weapons to use for the coup, which was supposed to have less participation of physical troops.
Sources further revealed that Sylva, who is aggrieved over his non-inclusion in the Tinubu administration, is allegedly involved in illegal bunkering in the Niger Delta and other illicit businesses and operations.
Daily Sun gathered that investigations into the coup have been concluded and would be submitted to the president any moment from now. It was also gathered that the military would, in the coming days and weeks, make the matter public and give identities of the officers involved in readiness for a General Court Martial (GCM).
Meanwhile, Daily Sun has authoritatively gathered that the residence of Sylva was raided by operatives of the DSS and not the military as it was earlier speculated in some quarters.
However, Sylva has broken his silence on the raid of his Abuja residence and denied involvement in any coup as alleged in some quarters.
In a statement by his media aide, Chief Julius Bokoru, yesterday, Sylva fingered those he described as “desperate and narcissistic politicians’’ plotting to actualise their ambitions in 2027 as behind the false reports because of their perception of Sylva as their obstacle.
He said such evil politicians took their desperation to a sickening level following Sylva’s intimidating political presence and credibility, which had continued to expose their dark, self-serving ambitions.
Describing the former governor as an unrepentant and thoroughbred democrat, Bokoru said Sylva had shown unwavering support for President Tinubu and his administration.
He recalled that Sylva recently mobilised the entire structures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State to unanimously endorse President Tinubu at the APC Bayelsa expanded stakeholders’ meeting.
Bokoru, who admitted that Sylva’s Abuja home was subjected to a raid by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters, stated that significant damage was inflicted on the property.
He said the security operatives who raided Sylva’s house did not provide any reason for their action.
He confirmed that Sylva and his wife were already out of the country at the time of the raid.
Explaining their absence, he said Sylva was in the United Kingdom for a routine medical check and would soon be on his way to Malaysia to attend a professional conference. The statement read in part: “For the avoidance of doubt, it is true that the residence of His Excellency, Chief Timipre Sylva, was recently subjected to a raid by individuals believed to be operatives of the Defence Headquarters. During the said operation, considerable damage was inflicted upon the property.
“Despite sustained efforts, we have been unable to ascertain the reasons or authorisation for this raid. To the best of my knowledge, the officers involved did not provide any categorical explanation for their actions, either at the time or subsequently.
“While the Defence Headquarters has already debunked the swirling rumours of a coup in Nigeria, it is important to state emphatically that Chief Timipre Sylva has no involvement, whatsoever—either in planning or in logistics—with any such plot.
“Chief Sylva is a thoroughbred democrat, whose entire political journey has been defined by his faith in democratic processes and institutions. From the 1990s, when he was first elected into the Old Rivers State House of Assembly, to his tenure as governor of Bayelsa State, Sylva has achieved every milestone through transparent, democratic engagement and the will of the people.
“His unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a matter of public record. It remains fresh in memory how he mobilised the entire Bayelsa APC structure to unanimously endorse President Tinubu at the APC Bayelsa Expanded Stakeholders’ meeting.
In another development, DSS has trailed to Oyigbo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and arrested one Innocent Chukwuma who used his social media handle to rally the military to overthrow the current government.
Posting on his “X” handle “@TheAgroman,” Chukwuma stated that a coup was needed in Nigeria and called on the military to “suspend the Nigerian government.”
He posted: “A coup in Nigeria is needed.
“Dispose of APC, suspend the Nigerian Government, and join the AES. That is all we need now.
“It will happen eventually. Nigerians, the military needs your support now! Only them can save this country.
“The bastard in Aso Rock has basically sold this country to the West, and they run our intelligence apparatus. Only the military can reset this country. Support them.”
A source disclosed that the suspect is cooperating with DSS investigators.
