A Civil Liberty Organisation, Stand For Humanity Foundation, has paid an N800k delivery bill for a newly born-twin, Amarachi Ngerem.
The newly-born was held in a hospital in Owerri, Imo State, after over one month of her delivery because of her parents’ inability to pay the hospital bill.
The child, born as a twin, survived after her twin died 24 hours after delivery.
The Founder and President of the Foundation, Chidiebube Okeoma, in a statement in Owerri, Imo State capital, on Saturday, disclosed that his organisation had cleared the bill, given the parents money, and also drove them home to Obazu Mbieri, in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.
Okeoma said that his organisation led a fundraising advocacy on social media, and within 24 hours, the money was raised, and the parents had more after the delivery bill was paid.
Okeoma, an activist journalist and humanitarian, said that a compassionate Nigerian, Dr. Chima Amadi, of The Mazi Organisation, cleared the bill through his organisation, while other compassionate Nigerians paid money into the twin father’s bank account, which his organisation had asked him to use for the upkeep of the surviving twin.
According to the journalist, Stand For Humanity Foundation got interested in the newborn’s case after it was brought to the attention of the organisation that the newly born was being held back at the hospital after being discharged because of her parents’ inability to offset the bill.
Part of the statement read, “We are happy to announce that a surviving twin, Amarachi Ngerem, born over one month ago in Owerri and held in a hospital since then because of her parents’ inability to pay the hospital delivery bill of N800k, has gone home.
“Our organisation, Stand For Humanity Foundation, didn’t only clear the bill, we drove her and her parents’ home to Obazu Mbieri in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
“A compassionate Nigerian, Dr. Chima Mattew Amadi of The Mazi Organisation, reached out to us after we championed an online fundraising advocacy and single-handedly paid the bill. He said that he was moved by Stand For Humanity Foundation’s interest to see the kid leave the hospital after a long stay.
“Our organisation, Stand For Humanity Foundation, drove them home, gave the kid’s parents money, and asked the father of the surviving twin to use the money other benevolent Nigerians donated into his bank account details to take care of the bundle of joy.
“Our organisation, Stand For Humanity Foundation, thanks Dr. Chima Mattew Amadi of The Mazi Organisation specially for being this kind-hearted and for releasing the funds that enabled our organisation, Stand For Humanity Foundation, to take the kid home.” (The Guardian)
