By PAMELA EBOH, Awka

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), Anambra State Chapter, has fixed August 9 for the kick-off of its governorship campaign ahead of the November 8 election in the state.

The party’s Governorship Candidate, John Nwosu, disclosed this at the inauguration ceremony of a 22-member Campaign Committee headed by Engr Ike Iwenofu.

Speaking Thursday at the event which took place at the party's office on Road 1, Udoka Housing Estate, Awka, Nwosu described ADC as a coalition party composed of people of proven character who had been chosen to work in the campaign committee.

He described the coalition plan as the best thing to happen saying that it came aboard before the launch of the ADC campaign.

The governorship hopeful called for team work in order to achieve the set goals, noting that he trust his members.

?While urging the members to trust each other and avoid gossip, he said: "What's important is that we avoid gossip, trust ourselves and sort our differences amicably and in the right quarters. We have no time left and our work is at the grassroots.

?"Assimilate the ADC manifesto, which is anchored on seven pillars, security, health, education, economy, environment, market and social welfare.

"The party learnt a lot from its recent tour of the local governments. The main complaints given by people against the incumbent government in the state were high cost of rent, insecurity and over taxation. He said the party had taken note of those issues."

?According to Nwosu, the campaign committee had been split into three zones to cover the three senatorial zones of the state, with each having a zonal director.

Nwosu further urged the members to go to the field and meet the people, adding

?"Our office here is for meetings; after this, it is field work. Be true ambassadors of the party and be of good character so people can believe you.

"The membership is composed of people from different parties in the spirit of the coalition. This would be replicated in all the wards.

He also restated the party's resolve to do well in the coming state assembly and senatorial bye-elections in ?Onitsha North 1 and Anambra South, and charged the members to use those elections to make a strong statement.

Nwosu, an ICT expert further reiterated that the launch of the party's campaign on August 9 would be a chance to announce their seriousness, even as he stated that steps were being taken to ensure a successful flag off.

?In his acceptance speech, the Chairman of the campaign committee, ?Engr Ike Iwenofu, said it was a privilege to serve the party and pledged that the committee would not disappoint.

He underscored the importance of God in any human endeavor and praised Nwosu for championing that.

?Iwenofu charged members to dwell on issues in their campaign, saying that technology would be deployed for effective campaigns.

Earlier in his remarks, the deputy governorship candidate, Chief Ndubisi Nwobu, called for unity of purpose and commitment.

While underlining the need for partnership, he stressed that the campaign organization was aware of their sacrifices, which, he said, would be rewarded.

???The ADC Chairman in the state, Comrade Patrick Obianyo, said the day marked the beginning of great things for the party.

He recalled that the party was founded by a son of the state, Chief Okey Nwosu, and charged members to ensure the party won, starting with the coming state and national assembly bye-elections.

"Be very serious in this onerous task," he urged the Committee.

?The Committee members include, former speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon Ben Chuks Nwosu who was named the Chief of Staff, Chief ?Bonny Okoye was appointed Campaign Manager, while a renowned journalist, Mr Sunny Igboanugo, was picked to head the media and publicity directorate.

The committee members were drawn from the three Senatorial Zones, mainly from ADC, PDP, LP, SDP, COPDEM and a few from APC.

Meanwhile, former Senate President, David Mark, is expected to be in Anambra State tomorrow to accompany the candidate on a condolence visit.
