2027: Two factors that can stop Tinubu’s re-election — Ali Modu Sheriff

Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, ex-Borno Governor

Former Borno State Governor, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has said only two scenarios can prevent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from securing re-election in 2027.

Speaking on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Sheriff declared that Tinubu’s return to office is almost certain unless elections are not held or the president chooses not to contest.

He expressed confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, stressing that his re-election would be a walkover victory.

“I can tell you for free, the only things that will stop President Tinubu from winning the election in 2027 are only two factors: one, if there are no elections in Nigeria; two, if he decides not to run,” he said.

Sheriff also spoke on national security, particularly the Boko Haram insurgency in the northern part of the country.

He stated that defeating the terror group permanently would require strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic and security ties with neighbouring countries.

“What should be done is that we have to have proper relationship with Cameroon, Chad, and Niger,” he said, emphasising the importance of regional cooperation to disrupt the group’s cross-border operations.

Sheriff also recalled his influence on the political trajectory of Vice President Kashim Shettima, revealing that he introduced Shettima to politics.

“I brought Senator Kashim Shettima into politics. He was a banker before. He was working in a bank,” he said. (Nigerian Tribune)
