Mr Peter Obi

An Igbo socio-political group, Njiko Igbo Forum (NIF) has appealed that southeast be given opportunity to produce Nigeria president in 2027.

Rev. Okechukwu Obioha, the President NIF, made the appeal in a statement on Wednesday in Enugu.

He said the decision was reached after an extra ordinary meeting of NIF National Advisory Board and members of National Executive Council (NEC) on Tuesday.

Obioha said the forum noted that since the amalgamation of 1914 of the Southern and Northern Protectorate; sharing of the economic, political and social fortunes and well being as a country, had been considered in turns between the North and South.

He said, “Considering the forgoing of our political experimentation from 1999, the presidency of the country, have been rotated between the North, South and the six geo-political zones.

“We recognise and insist that the Southeast zone should be given a chance to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2027.

“This is for the next four years of the South before the North insists of their turn for 2031. This is for justice equity and fairness,” Obioha said.

He said the forum had agreed to start physical strategic visits and consultations to the five geo political zones of the country.

This, Obioha said, would afford them an opportunity to seek for mutual understanding, bonds and working relationships with handshakes across the Niger, Middle Belt, North East and North West.

“We understand that no one single zone can produce the president of Nigeria, except with collaboration, cooperation and agreement of other zones.

“Njiko Igbo Forum wants Southeast to be given a chance by Nigeria and in so doing, Mr Peter Obi to become the elected president in 2027 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said. (NAN)
