NYCN elects officers to pilot affairs in Anambra’s 21 council areas

By CHIEDU UCHE OKOYE

The Anambra State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has conducted elections to pick a new set of officers to pilot its affairs in the 21 local government areas of the state.

The election was conducted on July 19, 2025 under the leadership of Comrade I. K. C. Onuorah in the cavernous hall of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Awka.

The emergence of new officers for the 21 chapters of NYCN in Anambra state came about by election and adoption of officers through consensus.

The exercise was witnessed and supervised by members of the Girls' Guide, Girls' Brigade, Boys' Scout, Man of Order, Discipline Movement of Nigeria (MOD), and former leaders of the Anambra NYCN.

The above-named organizations maintained law and order during the election and were handy to cast votes for local government areas whose delegates couldn't reach agreement on candidates, who would become their leaders.

However, efforts made by the Anambra state NYCN electoral committee to produce new leaders for Idemili North, Ihiala, and Awka South LGAs through either election or adoption of consensus candidates were unsuccessful.

While the planned elections for the three council areas ended in stalemate, the delegates from the three council areas couldn't reach unanimity on the officers who would pilot their affairs.

It is expected that another round of election would be conducted for the three local government areas with a view to producing new leaders for them.
