A coalition of youth groups from over 1,000 All Progressives Congress (APC) support organisations in Nigeria’s North Central zone has resolved to send a 100-man delegation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, urging him to support Senator Mohammed Sani Musa for the position of APC National Chairman.

The decision was announced on Thursday at an emergency meeting held in Lafia, Nasarawa State, where the youth leaders discussed the political future of the North Central region and strategies to strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, Comrade Dan Okwa, Convener of the North Central APC Youth Vanguard, reaffirmed the group’s loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and said the president’s re-election bid requires the backing of a pragmatic and visionary party leadership.

“We believe that North Central must not just be represented but must be strategically positioned at the table of power,” the communiqué read. “As we look toward 2027, we need to reorganise our internal structure and support one of our most credible leaders to steer the APC forward.”

The coalition described Senator Sani Musa, who represents Niger East and chairs the Senate Committee on Finance, as a loyal party man with deep grassroots support, political foresight, and a clear grasp of the APC’s mission.

“He is a bridge between generations and has remained steadfast in his support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Okwa noted. “That’s why we’re mobilising a 100-man team to visit the Senate President this week to seek his backing.”

While acknowledging other aspirants from the region, including former Nasarawa governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura, the youth leaders argued that Sani Musa stands out as a younger, unifying figure capable of energising the party’s base and mobilising youth participation.

“Senator Al-Makura is a respected elder and party stalwart, but we believe this moment calls for a dynamic leader with fresh energy and a strategic outlook,” they stated.

The coalition also urged political elders and stakeholders in the region to persuade Sani Musa to formally declare his interest and lead the charge to consolidate the North Central’s influence within the APC and on the national stage.

According to Okwa, the delegation to Akpabio will present a detailed petition containing resolutions from the youth summit and a breakdown of the strategic role the North Central zone has played in sustaining the APC since its inception.

“From massive voter mobilisation to defending the party during difficult times, the North Central has always stood by the APC. We believe now is the time for the party to reward loyalty and capacity,” he said.

The youth coalition also vowed to intensify mobilisation across the North Central states and the FCT ahead of the APC National Convention, while reiterating that their campaign is not just about regional inclusion, but about strengthening party discipline, rebuilding trust, and preparing the APC for future victories.

“We will engage key leaders across the zones, not just in the North Central. This is about the future of the APC, and we believe Senator Sani Musa is the man to lead us into that future,” Okwa concluded.

The delegation is expected to meet with Senate President Akpabio later this week in Abuja. (The Nation)
