Operatives in Anambra have arrested a final year student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Uli Campus, for allegedly conspiring to kidnap his best friend and demanding N15 million ransom.
Zagazola learnt that the suspect, identified as Muanya Chekwube Victor, 24, of No. 17 David Okoye Avenue, Ogidi, in Idemili North Local Government Area, was apprehended at about 12:45 p.m. on July 6 in Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area.
According to reliable sources, Victor conspired with others still at large to kidnap his close friend, Epebife Daniel, also a student of COOU.
The victim was reportedly abducted on June 23 at about 11:50 p.m., blindfolded, and taken to an undisclosed location where the kidnappers demanded N15 million ransom from his family.
Following negotiations, the victim’s parents transferred the sum of N5.3 million into a cryptocurrency wallet provided by the suspects before Daniel was released on June 26.
Upon his arrest, Victor allegedly confessed to the crime and is said to be assisting security operatives with information to track down his accomplices.
Police say the case is currently under investigation. (Zagazola)
