A soldier attached to the Nigerian Army School in Nicoho, Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, was reportedly rescued from drowning after falling into a drainage channel overwhelmed by floodwaters.
The incident occurred over the weekend at Igbira Camp along the Auchi-Igarra Road, following a heavy downpour in the area.
It was gathered that the soldier was attempting to cross the drainage when he lost his balance and slipped into the fast-moving flood.
In a 46-second viral video of the incident, a voice is heard exclaiming, “A soldier has fallen into the drainage. The flood is carrying him away. People are trying to rescue him!”
An eyewitness, who identified himself simply as Jimoh, said the soldier was trying to jump across the drainage when he lost his footing and fell in.
“The ravaging flood, following the heavy rain, swept him away, but timely intervention by passers-by saved his life,” he said. (Daily Trust)
