DSP Alabo Alfred, spokesperson, Plateau State Police Command
The Plateau State Police Command has deployed its Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, also known as the anti-bomb squad, to the University of Jos (UniJos) and other vulnerable areas within the city to prevent any possible explosions.
The deployment includes trained bomb technicians, specialised patrol teams, and officers from the State Intelligence Department (SID), aimed at enhancing security architecture and ensuring peace and safety across the state.
In a statement on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Alabo Alfred, the police said the deployment followed a memo issued by the Acting Chief Security Officer of the University of Jos, Agamos Solomon Tangni, on Friday. The memo warned of a bomb threat targeting the university.
A copy of the memo obtained by our correspondent was addressed to all staff, urging vigilance and the safeguarding of university facilities. It also directed the institution’s security personnel to conduct thorough searches of individuals entering and exiting the campus.
In response, the police said that although there is no concrete evidence to support the university’s claim, all necessary precautions have been taken to guard against any potential threats within and around the university premises.
The command called on residents to remain calm, stay vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious persons, movements, or activities to the police or the nearest security agency. (Daily Trust)
