Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan; Senate President Akpabio
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has expressed readiness to show proof that the Senate President Godswill Akpabio actually threatened her life.
Natasha’s Counsel, Sen. West Ehiogie Idahosa, in a statement, on Saturday, assured that his legal team would adequately prepare all factual and statutory defences available and place same before the Court during trial.
The latest position by Natasha followed receipt of a letter at about 2:30pm on Friday, the 23? of May, 2025, in the premises of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Abuja, of a suit filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) containing three counts bothering on allegations that she made imputations which will harm the reputation of the Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Idahosa acknowledged receipt of the said information on behalf of Natasha upon a letter of authority duly issued by her and filed in the Registry of the said Court.
The suit marked CR/297/25 and filed by the DPP before a Federal Capital Territory High Court on May 16, 2025, has Akpoti-Uduaghan as the sole defendant.
Natasha representing Kogi Central senatorial district was accused of breaching Section 391 of the Penal Code, cap 89, Laws of the Federation, 1990, punishable under Section 392 of the same law.
The suspended senator, in her petition to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, and to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, called on them to wade into alleged attempt on her life by the Senate President.
In the petition dated 15th May, 2025, Natasha accused Akpabio of orchestrating a malicious campaign of criminal defamation, cyber-stalking, conspiracy, and attempted assassination against her.
Natasha in the petition filed on her behalf by her counsel, Sen. Ehiogie West -Idahosa, a Senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) averred that the petition is supported by incontrovertible evidence from public broadcasts, witness testimonies, media reports, and expert analyses.
Akpoti-Uduaghan claimed that facts available to her demonstrate a deliberate retaliatory campaign by Senator Akpabio, using proxies and resources at his disposal, to harm her.
She thereby called on the Minister and the IGP to examine statements and actions of third-party collaborators who publicly endorsed the defamatory broadcast against her to determine their knowledge of and participation in the conspiracy.
“We maintain that the actions against our client amount to a criminal enterprise violating multiple laws,” the lawyer said.
“We respectfully urge your service to painstakingly investigate the contents of this Petition and ensure that justice Is expeditiously dispensed to all who may be found wanting regardless of their status in the Nigerian society.” (The Guardian)
