Barcelona twice came from behind against Inter Milan to snatch a draw in a six-goal first-leg thriller to leave their Champions League semi-final finely poised.

Inter stunned the hosts after just 30 seconds when Marcus Thuram turned in Denzel Dumfries' low cross with an audacious backheel flick to score the fastest goal in a last-four game in the competition's history.

Dutch full-back Dumfries doubled the visitors' lead with a stunning overhead kick 20 minutes later and it looked like Barca had a mountain to climb at Montjuic Olympic Stadium.

But the magical, magnificent Lamine Yamal pulled out his box of tricks to transform the game.

He struck a wonderful 24th-minute reply as he drifted inside and skipped past several defenders before unleashing a sumptuous left-foot finish that kissed the post before landing in the net.

Yamal was at the heart of everything Barca did, also hitting the woodwork twice, but marked his 100th appearance for the club with a 22nd goal to add to his 33 assists at the age of just 17.

Ferran Torres capped off an enthralling first half with a 38th-minute equaliser for the hosts, stabbing home from close range after Raphinha headed down Pedri's crossfield ball.

But the impressive Dumfries scored his second of the night in the 63rd minute to restore Inter's lead when he rose highest to meet Hakan Calhanoglu's corner.

But Barca again responded in style and levelled just two minutes later when a stunning 25-yard strike from Raphinha clattered the bar, bounced down and into the net, via a touch off Inter goalkeeper Yann Sommer's back.

The breathless affair leaves the tie in the balance, with the second leg on Tuesday at the San Siro in Milan.

Clash of styles but Yamal dazzles

Fifteen years on from the last time these sides met in a Champions League knockout match – where Jose Mourinho's Inter upset Pep Guardiola's Barca - the two European giants served up another scintillating semi-final.

Many have suggested Barca cannot win the trophy playing this all-out attacking style and dangerous high line.

Yet few will argue it does not make for entertaining football.

Inter's two early goals left the home support shellshocked but Barca, aiming to reach their first Champions League final in a decade, kept their composure and followed the lead of Yamal to get back into the game.

The teenager may have this week rejected being likened to legendary Barca forward Lionel Messi, but this dazzling display will have done nothing to silence those comparisons as he took centre stage.

After scoring his fifth goal of this Champions League campaign, Yamal was at the forefront of Barca's attacking play in the absence of the injured Robert Lewandowski.

From tantalising balls into the box, tricks to baffle defenders, he almost curled a dreamy second goal, but Sommer's superb fingertip save pushed the effort on to the woodwork. Yamal also whipped another strike later that beat the Inter keeper, but dropped on to the bar.

Torres, replacing Lewandowski up front, dragged a shot wide and flashed another across the face of goal, before finding the equaliser before the break.

Dani Olmo was also denied by Sommer after powering in a low effort as Barca created several chances to show they could overturn Inter's lead.

But the Italian champions, who arrived into the tie on the back of three consecutive defeats, continued to threaten too, especially down the right-hand side.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan thought he had a fourth goal for Inter when he poked home at the back post, but it was ruled out for offside, with the semi-automated system showing the narrowest of margins.

It was a fascinating encounter between two opposing styles of play and, while Barca know they have the firepower to outscore their opponents, Inter will take confidence from scoring three goals against a defence with clear frailties.

Hansi Flick's side, fresh from lifting their first trophy under the German after victory over Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey on Saturday, will enjoy a mouthwatering prospect in Milan, especially if Yamal rises to the occasion again. (BBC)
