Some residents of Osogbo, on Friday besieged motor parks across the state capital to travel to their various destinations ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

Visits to some of the motor parks by a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent showed the residents arriving from other states, while others were leaving the state capital preparatory to the election.

One of the travellers, Mrs Mufiyat Kolawole, said she was heading to Ejigbo, alongside her siblings and relatives, to vote for the candidate of her choice.

Kolawole said she decided to embark on the journey because her permanent voter card (PVC) was registered in Ejigbo and she could not transfer her voting location to Osogbo.

She added that she would ensure the transfer of her registration polling unit to Osogbo after the governorship election, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We all pray for a peaceful election, and we urge the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a credible process and declare the winner in accordance with the law,” she said.

Another resident, Mr Kazeem Abdullazeez, told NAN at Okefia Motor Park that he had been voting in Iwo Local Government Area since 2013.

Abdullazeez said he expected his brother who resides in the United Kingdom to also return to the state to cast his vote.

He appealed to political actors contesting the governorship election to embrace whoever emerged winner and avoid violence, harassment and intimidation.

“Some of my relatives are travelling from Kwara, Oyo and Lagos states to Osun to participate in the election,” Abdullazeez stated.

For Mrs Oluwatoyin Adebiyi, who was travelling to Esa-Oke, her hometown, she decided to return early to avoid any difficulty getting home before the election day.

“I registered to vote in my community and I want to be there early enough to exercise my franchise.

“I believe every voter should make effort to participate in the election because the outcome will determine the direction of the state for the next four years,” she said.

NAN reports that the election will see voters across the 30 local government areas of the state casting their ballots to elect a governor who will pilot the affairs of Osun for the next four years. (NAN)
