Ex-Governor Bafarawa
By GARBA MUHAMMAD, Kaduna
Former Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the country?s worsening economic and security crises while ensuring the survival of a vibrant democracy.
Acknowledging the difficult situation Tinubu inherited, Bafarawa, in an open letter, reminded the President of his campaign promises to improve governance, secure lives, and uplift Nigerians. However, he expressed concern that nearly two years into Tinubu?s tenure, insecurity has escalated, inflation is soaring, and citizens are struggling with hunger and hardship. He urged the President to take immediate action to reverse these challenges.
Bafarawa, in an open letter to the President, also emphasized the importance of allowing opposition politics to thrive, warning against any moves to suppress democratic participation. As a beneficiary of Nigeria?s democratic process, Tinubu, he argued, must resist the temptation of a one-party system, which could harm the country?s political stability and progress.
He called on the President to uphold democratic values, take inspiration from countries with strong multi-party systems, and ensure Nigeria remains a nation where political competition is encouraged.
Bafarawa concluded his letter with an appeal to Tinubu to leave a lasting legacy by safeguarding democracy and steering the country toward a better future.
