Suspended PDP South-South zonal secretary, Felix Omemu
The Peoples Democratic Party in the South-South has suspended its zonal secretary, Felix Omemu, for one month over alleged misconduct and unauthorised statements in the media.
But Omemu dismissed his suspension, arguing that the Zonal Executive Council meeting called by the party?s South-South Vice Chairman, Dan Orbih, in Benin City, Edo State, was illegal.
In a statement issued in Yenagoa on Saturday, Omemu stated that the meeting where his suspension was announced could only be held with the approval of the Zonal Working Committee.
He said there was no time the ZWC deliberated and agreed to convene a meeting.
Sunday PUNCH gathered that at the Benin zonal executive committee meeting, the factional Speaker of the River State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, moved the motion for Omemu?s suspension which was seconded by the member representing Ogoja/Yala Constituency in the 10th National Assembly, Godwin Offiono.
Amaewhule accused Omemu of misconduct, breach of trust, and fostering division among members.
He said, ?Chief Felix Omemu has been suspended and a disciplinary committee set up to investigate him. Omemu?s action is illegal and an attempt to cause disunity and dissuade members from attending the South-South ZEC meeting in Benin.?
Following the suspension, PDP zonal legal adviser, George Turnah, was immediately appointed to function as the acting zonal secretary. (Sunday PUNCH)
