Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has hailed the Anambra Beach Soccer Team, aka, Anambra Warriors for their impressive second place finish in the National Beach Soccer League concluded in Kaduna on Saturday.
In his congratulatory message, the SWAN Chairman, Anambra State Chapter, Chimezie Anaso said that the Anambra Beach Soccer Association chaired and sponsored by Prof. Victor Madubuko had again demonstrated that the private sector could become the cornerstone of sports development if the right persons were allowed to contribute their quota.
He noted that the association has in less than two years of its existence been able to build a standard beach soccer pitch and attracted the league to the state.
Anaso called on government to support the association, saying that Anambra was becoming a force to reckon with in Beach Soccer.
While saying that members of the association were proud of the teams feat at the national level despite being first timers, he added: The body of sports writers in Anambra wish to congratulate the silver winning Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors for taking the entire country by surprise, they featured in the league for the first time and were able to finish second, that was impressive.
We want appreciate Prof. Victor Madubuko chairman of Anambra State Beach Soccer Association for his passion and commitment to the growth of the game in the state as well his finances with which he gave the dream life.
He sponsored the association and the team single-handedly without government support and he was able to achieve this, we are convinced that the sky will be the limit when the government and others like corporate bodies move in to support beach soccer in Anambra, he said.
Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors in the final match finished second behind the defending champions, Kebbi Beach Soccer Club ahead of Kebbi United Beach Soccer Club and Kada Beach Soccer Club which finished third a d fourth respectively.
