Tragedy struck as a 45-year-old driver, named, Tasi’u Ashiru, killed six people and injured seven more in Jigawa State.
It was learnt that the incident occurred on Wednesday at Sabon Garin Takanebu, Miga LGA, along the Jahun-Gujungu Road, when the driver lost control and collided with market vendors.
Six people died, and others suffered varying degrees of injury.
DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the state’s police command spokesperson, confirmed the incident on Thursday.
According to him, “On June 12, 2024, at about 2100hrs, there was a fatal motor vehicle accident at Sabon Garin Takanebu, Miga LGA, along the Jahun to Gujungu Road, involving a vehicle with Reg no. XA 519 KUR Mitsubishi Canter driven by a 45-year-old Tasi’u Ashiru of Kara village, Ajingi LGA, Kano State.”
“On reaching the Sabon Gari market, the driver lost control and ran into marketers, as a result of which ten (10) persons sustained various degrees of injuries while three (3) died on the spot.”
DSP Shiisu stated that a team of officers responded to the spot and transported both the bodies and the injured to Jahun General Hospital.
He further stated that three more people died on their way to the hospital, bringing the total number of deaths to six.
The medical doctor on duty declared the victims’ deaths, while the remaining seven wounded are being treated and admitted.
The corpses were later given to their families for burial.
The motorist has been arrested, and a police investigation is underway.
CP AT Abdullahi, the Jigawa State Police Commissioner, prayed to Almighty Allah for mercy and the deceased’s eternal rest.
He also called with motorists to drive safely and cautiously, warning that anyone caught driving recklessly or causing fatalities by irresponsible driving will be detained and prosecuted. (Courtesy, excluding headline, New Telegraph)
