The Chairman of the Labour Party (LP) transition committee in Ebonyi State, Comrade Igini Innocent, has berated the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) over its rejection of the sixty-two thousand naira proposed minimum wage by the tripartite committee set up by the federal government.
Igini made the condemnation in Abakaliki on Wednesday, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the party meeting held to select a list of members of the state transition committee.
The meeting was organized in line with the directive of the National leadership of the party to all the 36 state chapters subject to the approval of the national transition committee.
“It is ridiculous for the Nigerian Governors Forum to reject the payment of N62,000 proposed by the tripartite committee agreed by the federal government and organized labour.
“Any state governor that says he cannot pay the agreed minimum wage should resign immediately.
“NGF should not ridicule the suffering masses, inflation rate has gone up to 32 per cent high, price of petrol has gone up between N600 to N1,000.”
He commended the party National Transition Chairman Alhaji Wahid Ibrahim, and the party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election Mr Peter Obi for their leadership qualities.
According to him, “Other members of the state transition committee include Comrade Raphael Akaeze (co-chairman), Pastor Ken Ozioma Eze (secretary), Comrade Christian Chukwu Otu, Comrade Chukwu John (mobilization), and Ifeoma Chukwu (gender equality).
He said that the party was poised to re-write the history of the country through the leader Mr Peter Obi.
“We will join our leader Mr Peter Obi to achieve a new Nigeria, our quest to have a party geared towards winning election cannot be defeated.”
Igini highlighted other resolutions adopted during the meeting including the setting up of the Congress Planning Committee chaired by Comrade Ekumaoko Ginikachi Nnachi.
