A 200-level student from the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State has allegedly threw her newborn baby off the upper floor of a three storey-building female hostel after birth.

New Telegraph gathered from a female student at the university that the incident occurred on Monday, June 10.

She claimed that the inmates of the Morocco Female Hostel on the university campus awoke to the awful tragedy.

She said; “Early Monday morning, we woke up and saw the newborn baby girl on the floor, dead, thrown from a three-story building.”

She claimed the girl decided to cover her humiliation after giving birth out of wedlock.

DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, a police spokesman, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday to New Telegraph.

He claimed authorities received a tip that a 200-level student gave birth and hurled the baby off a three-storey building, causing the infant to die instantly.

He stated that after getting the report, a team of police officers raced to the scene of the crime and transported the baby and mother to Rasheed Shekoni Teaching Hospital Dutse, where the infant was declared dead by a medical doctor on call.

Meanwhile, the suspect was admitted and is undergoing rehabilitation as DSP Shiisu said an investigation is ongoing regarding the incident. (New Telegraph)
