A man identified as Daniel Otuechere is cooling off at the detention facility of the Central Police Station (CPS) of the Abia state command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) over the mysterious death of his neighbour’s son, identified as Hope Chinedu Prosper.

They are both residents of Agbo Emede Ibeku in Umuahia North local government area of the state.

According to reports, Otuechere had left the compound with Prosper a 23-year-old only to return to the compound with the lifeless body of the deceased to the chagrin of neighbours.

Our correspondent reports that other suspects linked to the crime have also been arrested.

The Police Public Relations (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka who confirmed the incident disclosed that detectives from the command had been sent to the scene after the deceased’s father, Hope Oluoha, a 52-year-old reported the matter to the police.

Chinaka disclosed that the body of the deceased has been deposited in one of the morgues in Umuahia, the state capital awaiting autopsy.

The police PPRO said: “On 19/4/2024, the Central Police Station (CPS) Umuahia received a report from Hope Oluoha, a 52-year-old Male of Agbo Emede Ibeku Umuahia that on 18/4/2024, one Daniel Otuechere male 27 years old of same address took his son, Hope Chinedu Prosper, male 23 years old to an unknown destination and returned home with his lifeless body.

“The body was taken to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. Detectives from the Command visited the scene and the body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. Suspects connected to the crime have been arrested and discreet Investigation is ongoing.” (The Nation)
