LP Presidential Candidate Peter Obi
Former Labour Party presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi has restated his dedication to fostering positive change in Nigeria during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Lafia. Stressing his commitment to being a Nigerian first, the former Anambra governor highlighted the importance of addressing societal issues beyond political aspirations.
He expressed this sentiment while engaging in philanthropic activities during the holy month of Ramadan and initiating water projects aimed at alleviating suffering in Nasarawa State.
“I am here to pay my own courtesy and solidarity to you in this month of Ramadan. It is a nationwide project in various parts of Nigeria. In my own little way, I support those at the lower ranks and do some borehole projects in some parts of the state to alleviate water scarcity. I am not doing politics now, but as a Nigerian, I am giving back to the people. I am not desperate to be president of Nigeria but to be a Nigerian first.”
Peter Obi highlighted the importance of strong opposition in democracy, stating, “Strong opposition is critical to democracy. That is what democracy is all about – always saying what is not right and what is right.”
He stressed the significance of addressing issues concerning poverty, stating, “The criminality we face today will disappear automatically if we can put people out of poverty.”
Responding, Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule appreciate the former Labour Party Chairman, Mr. Peter Obi, for coming to see him adding that they have known each other for a very long time.
Sule urged him to join hands with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to solve Nigeria’s problems adding that Issues in Nigeria are numerous, and President Tinubu alone will not do it, but the collectiveness of people like him will help a lot.
“I further appreciate the Labour Party governor for the projects he has come to initiate in Nasarawa. (Daily Sun)
