
Late Ghanaian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Rashid Bawa
Ghanas High Commissioner to Nigeria, Rashid Bawa, is dead. He reportedly died in Abuja, the Nigeria capital, on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
The remains of the late 65-year-old envoy has been flown back to Ghana for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Though there was no official comment from Nigerias Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a source confirmed that the ministry had been notified of his death.
A politician and diplomat, Bawa was a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The former MP had previously served as Ghanas ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
He was the Member of Parliament for Akan Constituency from January 7, 2001 to January 6, 2005 as an independent candidate.
In June 2017, President Nana Akufo-Addo named him as Ghanas high commissioner to Nigeria.
Bawa was an independent candidate in the Third and Fourth Parliaments of the Fourth Republic of Ghana. He was elected as the Member of Parliament for the Akan constituency in the then Volta Region. (Pieced together from reports by CITI FM 97.3 Ghana and The Nation)
