Ugandan health authorities are actively investigating a mysterious disease outbreak in Kyotera district, located in the central region, which has claimed the lives of at least 12 individuals over the past two weeks. The affected individuals exhibited symptoms characterised by skin rashes that rapidly expanded, leading to their demise within a few days. Some victims also reported swollen limbs.

The Ministry of Health in Uganda has taken swift action by collecting fresh skin samples from a deceased patient at a local general hospital last week. However, the findings of these samples are yet to be disclosed to the public.

Local district health officials have encountered challenges in managing the situation as some patients have opted for traditional healers instead of seeking treatment at healthcare facilities. This shift in preference is attributed to the unknown nature of the disease, making it difficult to educate and prevent affected individuals from seeking alternative forms of treatment.
