Anambra State First Lady Dr Nonye Soludo
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has advised women to always apply caution with what they eat,
Mrs Soludo gave the advice on Monday in Awka while addressing business women and female farmers under the umbrella of the Ultimate Business Women and Farmers Association of Nigeria.
She harped on healthy living as an important factor to life, stressing that the absence of a healthy living lifestyle can lead the body to deterioration.
Mrs Soludo used the opportunity to renew her call for regulated intake of salt in view of the current high mortality cases and sicknesses resulting from over-consumption of sodium-based foods.
She cited the recent statistics by the World Health Organization, WHO, that over 2million deaths occur annually due to salt related sicknesses.
While noting that salt is an important ingredient for food, she stressed that consuming it more than the recommended unit leads to serious health problems.
She further harped on the need for organic agriculture considering its impact on human and environmental health.
While urging the female farmers to see the practice as not only safe but healthy, she also talked about her healthy living project and enjoined the women to take the lead in the campaign by not only living it out, but most importantly, impacting the ideas on their immediate society.
Earlier in her speech, the National President of the association, Mrs. Nkiru Onuigbo, hailed the Governor’s wife for leading a campaign of change in trying to make healthy living a household norm in the state.
The event which was preceded by road walks, physical exercise, medical check and health talks attracted special dignitaries including Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr Forster Ihejiofor, former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Stella Okunna and Woman Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mrs. Chinyere Onyekesi
