The Executive Chairman of Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Prince Ekuma Nkama Chima, has berated youth’s organisation, Umuekumenyi Equity Youth Front, for kicking against the appointment of the state’s immediate past governor, Senator David Umahi, as minister-designate.

Recall that Senator Umahi was among the first batch of ministers appointed by President Bola Tinubu, and have been screened by the senate.

It was gathered that the youth group had in a statement signed by its President and secretary general; Prince Nelson Igboke and Comrade Nwekeoyo Darlington respectively, rejected Umahi’s Choice as minister.

The group In the statement, called on President Tinubu to withdrawn the ministerial position given to Umahi to another prominent person of Umuekumenyi, which comprises Ebonyi Central and North senatorial zones.

Describing the Ministerial appointment given to Senator Umahi by President Tinubu as a threat to peace, unity and justice in Ebonyi State, the group argued that it is the turn of Umuekumenyi to produce the next Minister and not from Ebonyi South senatorial zone.

Stating that the South senatorial zone of Ebonyi state according to them, has held the ministerial position for over twelve years.

Reacting to the statement, Chima, who spoke to newsmen in Abakaliki on Wednesday while responding to the group, discribed them as jobless youths who are out to destabilize the relative peace, unity, and progress existing between the three senatorial zones of the state.

He said: “We don’t want this few jobless youths, who are under something, because I strongly believe that Umuekumenyi can’t oppose the former governor, Senator David Umahi’s appointment as minister.

“Few people who maybe, are the haters of Umahi have decided to come in the disguise of ‘Umuekumenyi Equity Youth Front’ with this kind of movement to oppose him (Umahi). I don’t actually believe that they are from Umuekumenyi.

“Before now, we don’t judge appointments on whether you are from Ebonyi North, Ebonyi Central, or Ebonyi South senatorial zone. The position we rotate is governorship position and not on Ministerial appointments.”

Chima applauded the cordial relationship existing between the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru and Senator David Umahi, warning that people should desist from causing breach of peace and unity in the state.

The LGA boss further extolled governor Nwifuru, for relating cordially with the chairmen of the 13 local government areas, increasing salaries of civil servants and promoting peace and order in the various communities of the state, which some are rocked by communal clashes.
