The Federal Government has said it will soon present an Executive Bill to the National Assembly on 35 per cent female representation in governance.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, announced this yesterday in Lafia, the Nasarawa State capital, during a pre-rally empowerment programme spearheaded by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.
The minister said the Bill was being drafted for onward presentation to the National Assembly.
She said Mrs. Tinubu was ready to ensure that the Bill scales all hurdles and becomes a reality.
Items distributed during the pre-rally empowerment included refrigerators, sewing machines, grinding machines, and cash to thousands of women in the state. Sulaiman-Ibrahim said the First Lady had introduced a policy, called menstrual hygiene, where sanitary pads, condoms, and other hygienic items would be distributed free to women across the country.
The minister said the delegation was sent on the explicit directive of Mrs. Tinubu to energise grassroots women and reaffirm the government’s commitment to the welfare of women.
Speaking on behalf of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) mobilisation wing, the party’s National Women Leader and Director of the APC Women Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Dr. Mary Alile Idele, said their mission was to ensure continuity of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Also, the delegation visited markets and hospitals and donated direct financial grants, business tools, and healthcare interventions to thousands of women as the party drives its re-election campaign across the country.
The empowerment targeted thousands of beneficiaries, cutting across maternity wards, local markets, and micro-business hubs.
During the market outreach, selected traders received specialised business kiosks, while between 100 and 200 women got N100,000 each in additional business capital. (The Nation)
