Governor Abdullahi Sule
The academic and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates of one of the cabinet nominees whose names were submitted by Governor Abdullahi Sule to the House of Assembly on Friday is shrouded in controversy.
Mr Kwanta Yakubu’s National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) and NYSC certificates are being called to question as he was alleged to have obtained only three credits in his National Examination Council (NECO) result.
A petition signed by an APC chieftain and activist, Mr. Malaku John, against the Nasarawa State University in Keffi where Yakubu is currently a postgraduate student of Security and Strategic Studies, advised Governor Sule to withdraw Yakubu’s nomination to avoid an embarrassment.
The petitioner also called on the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly to thoroughly investigate the nominee’s documents without the usual trend of “take a bow and go.”
The petition made available to reporters is also challenging the criteria used by the institution to grant admission to a candidate who claimed to have obtained an HND certificate without meeting the O-Level requirements.
John contends in his petition that no university would offer admission to a candidate for its master’s programme without the candidate obtaining a minimum of five credits at O-Level.
The petition accompanied with photocopies of Yakubu’s credentials indicates that he sat for the NECO in 2012 at Mada Community Secondary School, Andaha and obtained three credits in English Language (C5), Christian Religion (C6) and Economics (C6) while he got passes in Mathematics (E8), Geography (D7), Government (E8) and Literature in English (E8).
The petition equally disclosed that Yakubu claimed to have obtained a Diploma in Business Administration and Management with FIDEIPOLY in Gboko, BENUE State on November 29, 2016 with certificate registration Number 30509 as well as HND in the same field and same institution on September 10, 2019 with certificate number 30515.
“We challenge Hon Kwanta Yakubu to call or identify any of his course mates during his studies at Fidei Polytechnic, and the authenticity of his NYSC discharge certificate bearing 00512662 with registration Number EXE/FPG/2021/118789 allegedly obtained on 10thMarch, 2021,” it stated. (The Nation)
