Property estimated at N100m has been destroyed after fire burnt St. Peters Minor Seminary, Katari, Kaduna State.

The Rector of the school, Rev. Fr Sati Edward, while assessing the damage, said the fire started at noon, razed the fully equipped science laboratory, two blocks of hostels, and a 500-capacity student dining hall with a kitchen attached, all “worth over N100m.”

Sati said, “I got a call around 12 noon that the hostel was on fire. I immediately called the Archbishop of Kaduna and by the time I came back from town, the youth in Kateri town were making efforts to put out the fire. We noticed fire at the toilet; while we were trying to put it out at that time, the archbishop, who drove in by that time, noticed the fire at the laboratory, and before we moved there, the fire was all over the lab building.”

Sati blamed the insecurity in the area for the incident, adding that because all students and villagers had relocated, the school and the neighborhood became deserted.

Also speaking, the Education Secretary of the Kaduna Archdiocese, John Bagu, called on well meaning Nigerians to support with funds to rebuild the school.
