Accountants in charge of all General Hospitals in Nasarawa State have been charged to adopt a new accounting reporting system. The Chief Medical Director of Nasarawa Hospitals Management Board, Dr Egba Edego, gave the charge on Monday, December 19, 2022, during an interactive session for system strengthening and improvement workshop at the Board’s headquarters along Shendam Road, Lafia.
Edego told the participants that there was no change without challenge, pointing out that some lapses encountered during payment through the Central Billing System (CBS) and low revenue generation were as a result of the introduction of DSMA.
He therefore advised the accountants to learn the procedures of the DSMA inn order to enhance effective implementation for optimum output.
The HMB CMD further admonished the accountants to be upright in the performance of their duties.
Similarly, the Director, Account and Finance, Hajia Salamatu Oseze, who chaired the meeting, spoke extensively on the need for harmonization of DSMA services and records to achieve accuracy and standard.
Hajia Oseze expressed worry over poor monthly financial reports by accountants, directing that henceforth, she would not tolerate incomplete or under reporting.
She urged them to strictly comply with the reporting procedure which include use of codes for guidance.
The Director reminded the accountants that submission of monthly bank statement and reconciliation was mandatory, just as monthly reports should be linked with each other for detailed conclusions; while end of the year consolidated report should be done on spreadsheet. She added that the CBS charges should be captured as bank charges.
Other principal officers in the Department advised accountants not to lump expenditure in sub-head and should ensure error-free reports by proof reading them.
They noted that it was important for accountants to study the budget to know the proper codes, as well as ensure timely update of records.
The facilitator of the workshop and the HMB Desk Officer, CBS, Mr Francis Okuba, of the Nasarawa State Board of Internal Revenue, encouraged Accountants to use the online payment platform.
Okuba also addressed pressing issues as participants took turns to bare their minds on challenges they encounter while using the payment platform.
