A security expert and philanthropist, Amb. Chief (Dr) Nzeribe Okegbue JP, has been commended by the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Engr) Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, among others, for building a community town hall and constructing a borehole at Ndi Okoro village, Ikemba community, Ikwuano Local Government Area of the state. The projects, in memory of Okegbue’s mother, Mrs. Ugoma Beatrice Albert Okegbue, were commissioned last week.
The Deputy Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Boundary Matters, Chief Godwin Ndom, described Okegbue as a great philanthropist who has the interest of his people at heart. On his part, the Speaker described Okegbue as an invaluable asset to his community, the state and humanity at large. Similarly, Chief Steve Mpamaugo, Chairman, Ikwuano Local. Government Area of the state, also applauded the security expert for his kind gesture.
Meanwhile Rear Admiral Raphael Osondu (Rtd), who chaired the occasion, and Col. Austin Akobundu (Rtd), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Senatorial Candidate for Abia Central, including the State Party Chairman, Hon. (Dr) Alwell Asiforo Okere, who led other members of the State Working Committee of the party to the event, extolled Okegbue as a worthy son of repute and honour, whose contributions in both community and social welfare cannot be underestimated.
According to the State Party Chairman, “High Chief Nzeribe Okegbue has been a strong pillar of support to the PDP at all levels and we are proud of his exploits even as we pledge our support to his vision and encourage him to do more for his community, the state and humanity in general.”
In his brief address, Dr. Okegbue expressed gratitude to God and all who came to witness the commissioning of the projects. He promised to start building a health care centre to complement the town hall.
“I wish my mother was still alive to see what God is doing through me,” he said. “Some people also think that it is only when you are holding political position that you will do something for your people but you can do something even when you don’t hold any political position.”
Highlights of the commissioning include presentation of wrappers to indigent women, and others, as well as cultural dances by Ndiokoro, Ndieke, and Ikemba women.
