The Cross River State Police Command has exhumed the bodies of five persons allegedly murdered by community youths over witchcraft allegations in Cross River State.
It was gathered that the police immediately swung into action last Tuesday following an intelligence and arrested some of the suspects, who led the team to where the bodies were buried in an unmarked grave in Ndong Nwong community forest in Odukpani local council of the state.
It was also gathered that the victims, three women – Iquo Eyo, Atim Ekpo and Akang Eyo – and two men – Michael Robert and Etim Ekpo – were tortured to death by youths of the community in their bid to extract confessional statements from them.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer,SP Irene Ugbo, who described the act as barbaric and unacceptable, said the tactical team swung into action and arrested the suspects following investigations.
She commended the public for their support, assuring relatives of the victims that the police would do all within its powers to ensure that justice is served.
“The police will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the arrested suspects face the full weight of the law,” she assured. (The Guardian)
