Reigning Commonwealth and world champion in the women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, has expressed excitement and delight over her latest ranking released on Friday night by World Athletics.

From being ranked 43rd in September 2021, Amusan is now in the top five, moving up 38 places to being ranked fifth in the world, while her compatriot, Ese Brume moved up 32 places from being ranked 93rd in the world to the 61st position within the same period.

Both athletes have had a remarkable year with amazing results in all the international competitions they were involved in.

Amusan set a new world record in the 100m hurdles with a time of 12.12s to become World Champion in Eugene, Oregon at the World Athletics Championships and successfully defended her Commonwealth Games title in Birmingham. Earlier in the year, she won gold for Nigeria at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Mauritius.

Brume won a silver medal in the long jump at the World Athletics Championships in the long jump and struck gold at the Commonwealth Games.

Both athletes were awarded national honours by the Federal Government for their remarkable achievements for the country at the presidential reception held at the State House, Aso Rock Villa, Abuja on Thursday.(The Guardian)
