Suspected rapist Miracle Onwe
By CHARLES IWUOHA
The Police in Ebonyi State has paraded one Miracle Onwe for allegedly raping a 20-year-old girl.
The suspect, a native of Ezzamgbo in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the State is suspected to be a serial rapist.
The Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chris Anyanwu, said the suspect was arrested at Aboffia village where he reportedly had canal knowledge of 20-year-old Ruth Nwizi in a rice farm.
Anyawu noted that the suspect had been arrested for attempting to rape a minor but was granted bail when the parents of the victim declined prosecution, but said that “this time he would be charged to court to serve as deterrent to others involved in rape act”.
“The Ebonyi State Police Command arrested a habitual rapist on 29th of August, a young girl known as Ruth was in her farm in Aboffia village, “when the suspect swooped on her and had canal knowledge of her without her consent and immediately after that, he stole the girl’s Infinix phone worth 45.000 and took to his heels.
“The girl raised the alarm and people came to chase after him, he dived into a nearby river in Aboffia and with the help of the people he was apprehended.
“This is not the first time he's doing this; he attempted raping a minor sometime this year in the same manner, the same modus operandi, when the people chased him he dived into the river.
“But what happened was that he didn’t rape the minor but attempted to do it, when the parents of the girl realized that their daughter wasn’t defiled, they decided to decline to prosecute him.
“This time around, he did it and we’ve gotten the medical reports to prove he actually raped the girl, and he confessed to the crime,” the PPRO explained.
When newsmen interacted with the victim, she confirmed that the suspect raped her and demanded for justice.
The suspect however confessed to the crime, saying that the act was his second rape escapade.
