There was pandemonium, on Thursday morning, along the Ohanku road area of Abia South, Abia state, as hoodlums engaged construction workers in a fight, beating one of them into a coma.

It was gathered that one of the miscreants, got angered when a labourer at work on the road construction site, advised him not to pass through a newly cemented drainage line along the project site.

He was said to have left in anger but later returned with a gang that started beating and hitting workers on the site with iron rods and 2×2 planks being used to build moulds for gutters.

Eyewitnesses said at the location within the Onyembi axis of the Ohanku/Ndiegoro area that the miscreants numbering about six descended heavily on the man that asked their colleague not to walk on the newly cemented location, hitting him in the head, shoulders, chest and inflicting serious injuries as his colleagues who were caught unawares, fought back to save him.

According to a community leader in the area, he was rescued and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was said to be receiving attention, though he remained in a coma and in severe pain.

The community helmsman, who refused his name being mentioned publicly, said one of the hoodlums was caught and had been handed over to security operatives, for interrogation and assistance in fishing out and arresting his colleagues that ran away, when an angry crowd gathered to chase them.
