The construction work on the Egedegede/Nkalaha road in lshielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been flagged off.

The 4km road which linked to Benue State has been impassable for the community to transport their farm produce to urban areas.

Flagging off the construction work on Wednesday, the Executive Chairman of Ishielu Local Government Area, Hon Henry Sunday Eze, said the road was among the rural projects recently approved by Governor David Umahi.

According to Eze, “Egedegede/Nkalaha road, before now, the terrain was too bad.it was impossible for the people to go home. We did the earthwork during dry season after which the governor graciously gave them three kilometres.

“It is among the rural road projects the governor wants to embark on. But I want to start so that the governor will take over from where we will stop. What we are doing is to compliment his effort.

“We are happy that the project we start today, if you look at this BRC wire you will know that it has been packed here for a long time waiting for when we will have money to hire equipment.

“We also have 900 bags of cement packed for the work, the road construction will start today and we hope to complete it and the governor will come in.”

He stated that the road would help farmers in the community, Ishielu Local Government Area happens to be the highest farmers in the state, access in selling their farm products.

Stating that the road has about nine culverts and three of them need expansion, adding that the concrete pavement road could not carry the concrete because of how solid it will be.

He further said, for almost six years now Senator Obinna Ogba has been including the road and the one leading to Obeagu community in his constituency projects but unfortunately have not seen the light of the day.

On how the road will benefit the victims of Fulani attack in the community, the chairman said: “It’s part of the reasons we decided to build the road.

“We want to tell the people that we have not abandoned them, even after the incident we have Egedegede security outfit here which the governor had promised to take over their payments, the local government have been doing that and they perfect it at the state ministry of internal security.

“A lot of projects both concrete pavement roads, electricity projects from Agba to Eguhuo, we have school blocks, boreholes, which is not less than 30, grading of roads and more.”

Speaking on insecurity, Eze said no house was burnt in the LGA during the disturbances stressing that the incoming administration would continue from where he stopped.

Contributing, Chairman-elect for Ishielu local government area, Mr John Obinna Onwe, who was excited, assured to maintain peace and tranquility across the area.
