Zamfara Declaration: The road to Golgotha, By Anayo

Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State

I just listened to Zamfara Government calling on citizens to procure arms to protect themselves against bandits and terrorists. This is unprecedented again from Zamfara as the state was also the first to adopt Sharia law, opening the gateway for its permeation into the entire Northern Nigeria gradually.

The state is at it again and this new directive if Federal Government keeps mum and it is appropriated into action or law as the case may be, this will set our entire country on the road to Golgotha.

Countries that are civilized and with strong economic capacity to cater to all their citizens and monitor their activities like US that adopted rights to obtain gun right and buy guns over the counter have continued to grapple with high crimes despite their technology and strength in security because the moment its law to carry gun, there will be a lot of loopholes that will create market and proliferation by criminals, extremists and terrorists thereby endangering the lives of the entire country.

US up till today, despite their economic power, technology and security, remains one of the most insecure countries of the world. The reason is obvious. It is only in US that you can easily walk into anywhere and buy guy both from legally approved gun running firms and of course by other illegal clandestine outlets where criminals can procure gun and bullets with much ease.

The implication is that when it is easy for anyone one to get gun since the law of the land permits it, it becomes a profitable trade for many people. Many other arms producers across the world that are constantly looking for market for their products will certainly create avenue to ship them into the country illegally and the market will be so big that government will not be able to control it. And in climes like us where there are millions of young men who are idle with no jobs, access to gun will give them power to acquire wealth through the barrel of gun. I bet you the rest will be history about security of lives and properties in our country.

US upon their power to control the producer of every gun and its bullets with codes and numbers to trace each bullet to the maker and the person it was sold to, still cannot control the proliferation of guns in their country today.

This is why there is always periodic if not at least monthly report of mass shooting in US in school, mall, church, etc, because everyone has access to gun and bullet. The sane person, insane person and also terrorists.

We are not yet developed to a level to allow everyone access to gun at the blink of an eye so long as he can afford it. The implications will be so dangerous that our country might be amplified as the most dangerous place to live in terms of proliferation of gun and crime. The rating we have now as one of the most dangerous places in the world to live now will be a child’s play if we allow Zamfara once again to introduce tis bad precedence in our social life as a way to check their ineptitude ion governance and lack of proper plan for their youth through compulsory western education that takes the youths out of the street. Such bad law if implemented will certainly spill over or rather be copied by many other states in Nigeria that agree grappling with insecurity. This will obviously worsen our security situation and take it beyond redemption forever.

I hereby call Federal Government to without delay stop Zamfara from going through this lane so as to save our country from towing the road to Golgotha, a road to no return that will totally destroy our nation and our youths through the barrel of gun.
