Breaking: Soldier in trouble over Damaturu shooting •No cause for alarm, says Army

A Nigerian soldier has been apprehended over sporadic shooting that sparked panic this evening in Damaturu, capital of Yobe State in the troubled North-East. His motive is yet to be ascertained, but the Nigerian Army has asked people to go about their normal business.

Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said in a terse statement this night: “The Nigerian Army wishes to inform the public and clarify that the sporadic firing heard in Damaturu this evening was a gross act of indiscipline on the part of a soldier who has already been apprehended. The public especially those residing in Damaturu are please requested to remain calm and go about their normal business.”
