Galala singer, John Asiemo aka Daddy Showkey
Veteran Nigerian musician and performer, John Asiemo professionally known as Daddy Showkey, has sent a strong message to Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Delta State-born galala singer and ghetto dance creator in a video clip he posted on his Instagram page Monday called on the governor to provide enough palliatives to Lagos residents in the face of the lockdown over the second wave of COVID-19.
Making his demand in pidgin, the musician who was popular in Ajegunle part of Lagos in the late ’90s and fondly called the Ghetto Soldier, said he was not against the governor shutting down the state, but the government should make sure it provides enough palliatives to cushion the effect of the shutdown.
Showkey decried the devastating blow the shutdown is causing the entertainment industry. He said closing down night clubs, hotels, event centers and other entertainment outlets means entertainers in the state have lost their means of livelihood, and their dependants are bound to suffer untold hardship.
He therefore called on the governor to, as a matter of urgency, make palliatives available in kind and in cash to all the affected sectors, particularly the hospitality sub sector.
