SPECIAL FEATURE: Nigerians starved and Korede Bello fed them with Micasa

Mr Romantic, Korede Bello

By ITTY OKIM

Nigeria was starving, and then just at the right time, Mavin fed her with the best of Korede.

Korede Bello came into limelight in the music industry in 2015 when he dropped 'Godwin' under the Mavin Global flag. The song was so much of a hit that it is still being played in clubhouses, parties and even places of religious worship.

After Godwin, he had dropped a few other tracks including ‘Romantic’ with afrobeats goddess, Tiwa Savage which earned him the title ‘Mr. Romantic’ but didn’t do as well as his debut had done in the market.

For many years, his fans had yearned for another decibel of Korede’s resplendent singing as he had put into God Win, but sadly didn't get it. Not until last April when he dropped 'Mi Casa Su Casa’.

For the many years of his being inactive, rumours in large numbers went out concerning him dumping entertainment for a new line of work. Some said Korede had become a police officer. Others said he was now into fashion business, dealing with importation and exportation of male fashion items. None of these postulations were true of course, but the fans could not be blamed for thinking these. Korede was seen – just like D'ija - as an “abandoned Don Jazzy project.”

There have been several sayings about Mavin “dumping” acts that didn’t produce returns from their works which weren't the conventional afrobeats.

We all thought this was the case with LadiPoe as well, being a rap artiste in a pro-afrobeats label but his latest release with Simi – co-creator with Afropop sensation, Adekunle Gold – titled ‘Know You’ which has been stealing the airwaves lately proves that the “Don Jazzy Abandoned Projects” are not a thing.

In April, Korede had dropped ‘Mi Casa Su Casa’ and it was him feeding Nigerians with the sound they had longed for, for so many years.

The song has been doing well with streaming on all platforms and one could almost reach out to touch the eagerness of Nigerians for his next project in the air.

It’s time for Mr. Romantic to resume from where he had stopped.
