Governor Obiano
By PAMELA EBOH, Awka
The Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed three new cases of Coronavirus in Anambra State.
This is coming barely two days after a second case, a Kano returnee was reported in the state.
Details of the new cases which bring the total number to four are yet to be known.
The State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, had in a recent special COVID-19 broadcast regretted that the state recorded a second case despite all efforts put in place by his government to ensure there was no other record.
News Expressreports that the index case was a Lagos returnee who entered the state before boundary closure, leading to the closure of state borders and imposition of a two weeks lockdown which was subsequently extended.
Obiano had in his broadcast wondered how the new case was able to sneak back into the State after a trip to Kano, despite efforts to tighten security at the boundaries.
His words: “As you would have heard from the media, our beloved state recorded a new case of COVID-19 yesterday.
“The new case returned from Kano on the 6th of May after a short business trip. It is saddening that despite our efforts to tighten security at the boundaries, this new case was able to sneak back into Anambra State after a trip to Kano.
“He is currently receiving attention in one of our Protective Care Centers. His residence has been sealed off and we have commenced aggressive contact tracing to minimize the wave of community spread that might arise from this case.
“Ndi Anambra, I urge you to be calm as COVID-19 Task Force is on top of the situation to ensure that this threat is quickly contained.”
