By CHARLES IWUOHA
The Governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, at the weekend advocated for deployment of more professional Doctors and health workers at COVID-19 treatment centres across the country to assist in the management COVID-19 patients.
Umahi made this known while delivering valuable palliatives
and personal protective equipment (PPE) to doctors and health workers managingCOVID-19 patients at the Unity Square treatment centre, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.
The governor represented by the Special Assistant on Vocational Education, Barr. Adaeze Nwaji, said that the state government is poised to ensure that the lives of its citizens, especially the Doctors and health workers are properly protected.
Umahi applauded the Doctors for their efforts and doggedness, especially in taking the risk to ensure that those at the treatment centres who have either tested positive or negative are taking care of.
Recall that, one COVID-19 patients who was treated by the doctors was yesterday discharged by state government at the same unity square treatment centre.
However, Nwaji said that the state government directed the department of fashion and designing of the vocational college to design the PPE for the health workers as a way of protecting them to avert the spread of COVID-19 to other unsuspected members of the public.
She noted that the state government has done its best in tackling the spread of COVID-19 in the state, adding that there was need for the engagement of more Doctors and health workers in various hospitals in Nigeria to assist government at all level to put to an end COVID-19.
According to Nwaji, “We are here to deliver these scrubs to the Doctors and health workers working in this treatment centre to assist them, protect themselves from this COVID-19.
“Doctors are our heroes, especially in this period of COVID-19. They have worked tirelessly in trying to protect those who are at the treatment centres. They are very committed and courageous to assist government to end the spread of COVID-19.
“It is because of this that the governor said we should give them this scrubs, and that if they need more, they will tell us. Our front line health workers should be taken care of.
“We are hoping that there will be more engagement of more doctors in various hospitals in Nigeria to assist government at all level to end COVID-19. We are going to make more PPE for the Doctors.”
In a swift reaction, the head of COVID-19 medical team at the unity square treatment centre, Dr. Sunday Ucha, lauded the governors efforts in the provision of palliatives and other medical facilities to enable Doctors treat COVID-19 patients in the state.
”We thank the state governor for providing these scrubs and other health facilities within this period of COVID-19. We wish to commend his efforts so far. We wish that the stategovernment will provide more of this to our health workers in other places.
“We appeal to the governor to provide more resources to the vocational college to enable them make more of this PPE to us. We know that the governor has been doing very well by coming here always to check on us and sometimes he makes the health workers happy by given them lots of packages.
“We also want to thank him (Umahi) on the way he is tackling this COVID-19 in the state. We call on other state governors to come and learn from Ebonyi,” he stated.
