Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel
By SUNNY OKIM
Some men in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State, have donated packs of facemasks to the state government.
The men, under the aegis of Uyo Town Old Boys Foundation made the donation when they paid courtesy visit on the Commissioner for Information, Sir Charles Udoh on Friday at the Idongesit Nkanga Secretariat in Uyo.
Making the presentation, the leader of the group, Mr Eugene Ekanem, commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for his pragmatic approach in the management of the novel coronavirus pandemic in the state.
Ekanem said his members are impressed with the Udom-led government and that informed their show of solidarity by producing the facemasks for distribution to health workers and others directly involved in the fight against the dreaded virus in the state.
Receiving the face marks on behalf of the state government, the Information Commissioner thanked the Foundation and its executive committee members for their magnanimous gesture in joining the state government in the onerous task of nipping COVID-19 in the mud.
The image-maker of the state urged other groups to emulate Uyo Town Old Boys Foundation by joining the fight against the killer virus.
The information boss thereafter presented souvenir bags containing some publications by his ministry to the exco members of the foundation.
Earlier, the commissioner had used the occasion to remind the group of government regulations towards curtailing the spread of COVID-19 in the state which include compulsory use of facemasks in public places by all residents in the state, ban on social and religious gatherings, washing of hands regularly under running water and with soap, hand sanitising and maintaining social distancing.
